Quick lesson about pool chemicals and where to store them... One of my clients put all of their pool chemicals in a Rubbermaid container along with some of the pool hardware, notably, the escutcheons. This is what happened, and this is why we suggest storing your pool chemicals somewhere other than in the garage, as the chlorine gasses that escape the ventilated caps on the tubs of chlorine can cause premature rusting on vehicles. This is why we suggest storing your chemicals outside, in the shade, or in a well ventilated building or area...

If any one of you, my clients, needs concrete and/or coping work done around your pool, this is the guy you want to get ahold of. Talk to him to get on the schedule for next year, as I’m not even sure if he has appointment times available yet this year. When working around a pool, special care needs to be taken, and ideally you want someone who is familiar with working around pools. John has been working around pools for decades. He does full bust-out and replacement work and stamped concrete as seen. And let him know I sent you. I’ll attach his contact info in the comments.

How about that?!?! Wow! From that to this.... At Suburban Pool and Spa LLC we specialize in service and maintenance, from Opening to Closing pools and everything in between. Replacing pumps, filters, and heaters. We however do not do full rehabilitation projects, builds, or liners. This post is intended as a Big shout out to @ AquaFun Pools Sussex - Jim and Big Bend - Joe for the projects completed for our clients this year. And hopefully MANY more to come. From that to t...his... and priced right! We receive dozens of calls a year for work we do not do, and after a brief conversation and a handshake with Joe last fall, made an agreement, and they have followed through 100%. Because that’s all that should be needed in business. A true man, a Real Man is only worth his word. A true man, a real man if he has an issue sits down and has a conversation if there’s any issue and doesn’t first thing revert to back stabbing and criminal acts to try and make a point. And I as a man shouldn’t have to explain that to the numerous punks in this industry in SE Wisconsin. Understood? Joe Coglin at AquaFun is a young man raised right by his father Jim to do things right, the first time, and we will continue to send them every liner and build job inquiry that we get, along with a couple other dependable contractors who will get mentions... We’re not even asking for anything in return, just fairness and honesty, and each of our clients have agreed, @ AquaFun Pools does great work. So if your pool needs significant rehabilitation or a new liner, we recommend AquaFun - with locations in Sussex and Big Bend. Zero Complaints from the dozen or so jobs we’ve sent them, UNLIKE referrals we have tried giving to a couple other, what turned out to be, shoddy operations, not to be mentioned... And that’s all we’re looking for, to keep our clients swimming and happy! Beautiful day out here for swimming, have a great weekend! Thank you to Jim and Joe for being real men, bastions of truth and fairness and honesty in the pool industry in south eastern Wisconsin. Your dedication to your craft does not go unnoticed. Thank You! See more

Hopefully you all had a fantastic 4th of July and are using your pool regularly! What a great pool season so far! We’ve kept busy and haven’t taken the time to post. With the continued hot weather we are starting to receive calls about green pools. Just a reminder that when it it’s continually hot, and there is a lot of sun without cloud breaks, and your pool is getting used frequently, if not covered, your pool is going to burn the equivalent of a gallon of chlorine per da...y AT A MINIMUM, and more likely 2-4 gallons of chlorine per day. So if your pool has turned green, one of the factors may be chlorine depletion. When conditions are as they have been, 90 degrees and lots of sun, you need to check your pool water chemistry more frequently than usual, every other day, or even daily if necessary. Maintaining a minimum of 3ppm of Chlorine is a good place to start, as when your chlorine level drops to 0ppm, you’re probably going to experience issues such as a green pool. You don’t have perfect water clarity until you can see the bottom drain cover, clear as day from at least 100ft away, as each of these pools that we are responsible for, you are able to. The proper chlorine level is a major contributing factor to that. You don’t need to spend $500 on chemicals to get your pool this clear, just the opposite. Minimal chemicals, but attention to chemistry, filtration, and water flow are most important. If you’re struggling, give us a call. The cleanest, clearest pool water in south eastern Wisconsin brought to you by Suburban Pool and Spa LLC, as seen here. See more

Kathy had us install a new 1HP Single Speed Pentair SuperFlo pump today. Her previously installed Chinese-made pump died after 6 years of use. A pump motor we would never have installed, because we only install American made, Regal-Beloit, American name brand pumps and motors. We choose quality products over cost every single time. Before replacing the pump we verified that it wasn’t simply a start-capacitor that needed to be replaced, because we hate seeing our clients spend... money unnecessarily. We don’t gouge clients, and in-fact one of the ongoing mottos of Suburban Pool and Spa LLC, since Day 1, is to treat every client the way I would want to see my own widowed mother treated, with fairness, dignity, respect, and honesty. A characteristic alone that sets is apart from the rest... In the process of installing a new pump for Kathy, we had to re-run 1/2 liquid tight flexible PVC tubing, and pull 12/3 stranded wiring. A task that we absolutely love doing, and one that is super simple, because we keep a 100’ fiberglass fish-tape in our van at all times, and after doing such work for over 20 years now, it’s second nature. If you’re tired of the lame excuses from the operations that run around their untrained and barely trained service employees who don’t have answers for any of your ongoing issues, just invoice you whether the issue is resolved or not, look no further than Suburban Pool and Spa LLC to get the job done right, the first time, every time. Because every time, you’re dealing with the owner, the operator who takes on 100% accountability at all times. We’re leading the way, setting the bar in the pool and spa industry while numerous other competing operations have their feet kicked up, up north, on vacation at the busiest time of the year, because they can’t handle the stress. And they don’t care about you or your pool. Not us! Lol!!! Now who wants to work with the industry leader? Huh? We’d love to work with you too! Make no mistake about it, we’re not telling you we’re the only operation doing high quality work, but one on a short list. And if we can’t get to you, we’d love to send you to another fair and honest operation who is doing good work, because that’s who we are, and that’s what we do... Fair and honest, and we will NOT be railroaded by ANY dishonest operation, nor ANY dishonest person. Especially the spoiled brats who were handed a company and who haven’t had to work for anything they have. You think I don’t know your antics? Oh business is down I hear, huh? I wonder why? Anal Expulsive who nobody respects. Understood? Game on! Have a great day now! #CoverYankers See more

Heater install #21 for 2020, and re-plumb, and it’s only noon! Getting rid of the 1-1/4 corrugated tubing and threaded bushing couplers on this above-ground pool and completely hard-plumbing the system from point of suction to the return EASILY doubled the water-flow. We most likely increased the flow rate from around 30GPM to 60GPM, meaning, this pool only needs 6 hours to get 1-Turn of the water instead 12, resulting in an even cleaner and clearer pool.

Big shout outs to industry reps Jeff and Jon at Pentair for the work together today and yesterday. Ryan at Fluidra the previous week, James with Hayward the week before that, Jason at Maytronics, and Mike at Raypak as always. All of you gentlemen make working in this industry enjoyable. To have manufacturer reps that stand behind their products and be extremely knowledgeable resources in times of need is fantastic! We absolutely love this and is why we at Suburban Pool and Spa LLC will NEVER sell knockoff products. Only American Brands! Heater install number 20 completed today! The plumbers work to trench the gas-line and finish the job is scheduled for Friday morning. #LettersDown

Post heatwave and as the weather begins to cool, one great way to extend your pool season is to install a heater. So long as we have COVID uncertainty, who is going to want to let summer go? Not us! Suburban Pool and Spa LLC is a registered Service and Warranty provider of all major manufacturers in the pool and spa industry including Raypak, Pentair, Hayward, and Jandy and we will install any one of the major manufacturers’ heaters you desire for you, though not all pool equ...ipment is made equal, and we will make you aware of that information. A quick visit to ANY one or all of the manufacturers' websites quickly verifies this. Upon installing each heater, we first verify whether you’ve got 110 or 220V electrical, which is as simple as making a connection of the probes on a multimeter to the incoming electrical supply. We have more than one working multimeter (pictured). To change the wiring of a Raypak heater from 110V to 220V is a simple as moving the wire nut from incoming neutral - 110V - white wire, to the red wire running to the transformer when there is 220V service. It's about as simple a task as could ever be completed, common sense if you can read a wiring schematic, and we've done this literally a hundred times in the last 4 years. Additionally, we verify incoming gas pressure, measured in inches of water column, with a manometer (pictured), as there is a required range for each heater. We document this information on the inside of the door on each heater that we install, on the day of install(pictured). This year so far we have installed 18 heaters, each of which run flawlessly, as do the 100+ heaters that we have installed over the last 4 years. We have provided a few pictures of our work, and instruments that we use to verify that our heaters are installed above board, in case you were interested. With over 20 years of actual in-field experience, there isn’t another Pool Service Company in South Eastern Wisconsin with greater knowledge of heaters and heater installations. After meeting with us, you will agree, as all who meet with us do. We have yet to lose one heater bid in the last 4 years to another company. Call today for your heater install. Just a couple of our jobs this year so far. Another 5 more on the books, yet to be installed, and it looks like we'll be installing over 30 heaters again this year. It’s that time of the year... Pool Closing Season! With the fantastic pool season that we just had and the early cold and crummy weather, booking phone calls have started coming in much earlier and the volume of early calls is up significantly. Normally we recommend at least two weeks notice, but if possible, we’re gonna need 3 weeks notice this year. We’ve got a very few appointment times available in September, but October still has a lot of availability. As soon as you have a close date in mind, call or text and let’s get something on the calendar ASAP if you’re looking for a closing anytime before the middle of October. We’re booking into the first and second week of October and that will full up next...

Are you in need of a new winter safety cover? If so, it’s best that in the coming weeks, we begin that discussion, as it’s not certain if there will be any supply chain disruptions with your order. All businesses in the industry are being impacted in one manner or another, so the sooner we can get your order placed the better. We will again be installing Latham safety covers this year as we have for the last twenty years. If you know the color and quality of the cover that yo...u want, we can get your order placed as soon as we have your old cover in-hand, or drawing of your pool completed. If you’re not sure of the color or quality, we can drop off a brochure as soon as possible. The covers are rated based on the amount of light blockage that they provide. An important consideration, as sunlight is one of the components necessary for algae growth. The M5000 97% and the M7000 99% as seen in the photos A few pictures of our work. Let’s talk soon! Whatcha doin this weekend? Have you always wanted to pick up a sauna to go along with your pool and hot tub? Our industry friends at Legacy Pool and Hot Tub on Mequon Rd in Mequon have a sale this weekend. Go and check out their store and tell them I sent you. Mike Sterns - the owner, and his son run an honest business operation, so I’m always glad to send my clients to them, because I know you’ll get an honest, straight-forward response to any question you may have. While in...-store, check out their chemicals if you are in need of any for the remainder of the season. They’re another great option for my North Shore clients in need of products and answers, and I’m glad to have you visit and spend money with them supporting another local, small business that takes pride in their brand. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend everybody, and if you haven’t called to schedule a pool closing, let’s talk soon. We’ve got lots of time yet, but as you think of it, let’s get that scheduled! The phone calls are coming in and appointments are starting to fill the calendar. There’s lots of time before Memorial Day still, but getting your pool open before the rush is always ideal. We’re opening more pools every day. Are you planning on opening your pool by yourself? If so, take at least one picture once the cover is removed for reference. What you might not be aware of, in having a professional service company open your pool, is that observations about the health of... your pool are being made as the pool is being opened. Where is your water level? If it is not to the top of the skimmer opening as is seen in the photo of this pool opening, there may be an issue. If your pool was closed by an industry professional, all lines should be sealed with a plug, or with an air-lock on the main drain. If everything held and the liner is free of holes, and the conduit line for your lights is solid, the precipitation over the winter should have brought the water level up to the top after lowering for winter, indicating that you have a healthy pool. If your pool is not full to the brim, the level that the water is at can be an indication of where the issue resides - middle of the light, the conduit may be cracked. Bottom of the skimmer opening - your skimmer may be cracked. Etc. So while opening a pool is a fairly easy task that is time consuming and you get dirty doing the work, keep in mind the benefit of having a pool professional do the work, we’re making many observations as we open your pool. And if you are looking for a pool service company to open or close your pool, consider our services, though the number of new clients we are taking on is slowing as there’s only so much work we can take on while attempting to keep all of our clients as happy as possible. As always, I thank you for the work. Let’s talk soon if you do not already have your pool opening scheduled. See more

A little story about a job completed today, and how I choose to run my company... A couple weeks ago I got a call from a client who said that she had an issue with her variable speed pump, and had ordered a new pump, but needed it to be installed. A bit further out than I usually go, she came to me by way of referral from a great client, The Sievert’s. Upon hearing who was referring her, I knew she had to be good people, so I didn’t hesitate serving her. Upon arriving I br...iefly introduced myself and got straight to work. Upon opening the control unit on her pump I noticed that a wire was burnt and had appeared to arc-out. After ensuring that the the power was off, I rewired the pump, resolving the frayed wire, after which I turned the power to the pump back on, and the pump operated as it should. I showed this to her and she decided that was it, I was going to be her new pool service company. As a business operator, I take pride in doing things the right way, with honesty and integrity. I can’t speak for other operations and how they operate, though I’ve heard and know of many stories. In this situation, a service worker, business owner or not, has an opportunity to do the right thing, or take advantage of an unknowing client. I could have removed the pump and sold as used, full well knowing that the pump was perfectly fine, taken the money for the pump install from Michelle, and tripled-up my money, selling the used pump and another install to another client who would have known nothing about how I obtained the used pump. As always, my promise to my clients is to be honest, and to do things the right way. And this is why as of today there are currently 892 contacts on my phone. Because the honest and dignified clients will continue to be served the way they treat me, with dignity and respect, and the dishonest clients will be forgotten, upon paying their unpaid invoices, and asked to work with another operation. So to Doug and Michelle, a big thank you for the work, and to the Sievert’s, thank you for the referral! Pictures of our work today, Before and After. They even gifted me a bottle of one of their favorite bottles of Cab upon completing the heater install job today... . Thank you for the work Michelle and Doug! Heater install number 19 for the year.
