I inspected a pool today that had an attached spa. Unlike a standalone pool, a pool with a spa MUST have a heater. What is the point of having the spa if you cannot heat it up? The heater was removed - which is not uncommon when a heater dies - but after the heater was removed, the plumbing was not reconnected. Right now, if someone turned on the pool - the entire area by the pool equipment would be flooded. While the buyers did assume they had a heater - they realized on...ce I walked them through everything that they DID NOT have a heater - AND that they cannot even run the pool the way the plumbing was left after the heater was removed. Pool fences are an essential part of pool safety. Many people think they can install a mesh fence around the pool and this is just not the case. Due to the amount of snow we've had, February has been a tough month for pool inspections. Mother Nature is making it difficult to get my inspections done - forcing most to be rescheduled. At this property - everyone was willing to do whatever they could to try and get the inspection done. The seller (at his own cost) had people come to his house the night before the inspection to clear all the snow off the cover and patio. The seller went above and beyond. This patio is in need of a lot of work, and now the buyer knows and understands the importance of making the needed repairs. Most people think a damaged patio is just an aesthetic issue - and they can "live with it." That is not the case at all. Damaged patios allow water to get beneath the deck - which in turn can lead to further damage to the patio and/or damage to the pool structure itself.
