Our Survival Swim Program teaches your child to find their air by calmly floating for an extended period of time. . Though there may be tears for their first few lessons (that's normal!), the results will be confident swimmers with survival skills to self-rescue if need be.... . FUN FACT: In creating this video we realized we actually don't have footage of crying strong floaters -which speaks volumes for our Survival Swim Program! For the most part (depending on the child), by the time our students get to the calm floating stage they have put away their tears a few lessons back and are more confident in the water on their floats! It’s perfect timing for this week’s #TeamMemberTuesday as tonight's our first OSA Parent Orientation, which will be led by our very own OSA Parent Ambassador, Megan Peacock, RN, BSN. We’ve been so excited to start this initiative in order for our swim families to learn more about OSA, what to expect as their child moves through their Survival Swim Program, and to be able to ask all the questions to a fellow OSA parent - and this lady is the reason we are finally able to make... it happen! . . Megan is the mom of Abner, 5 and Cohen, 3, who have been swimming with OSA since the spring of 2017. Prior to having kids, Megan was a Pediatric ICU nurse and that’s where her passion for water safety was born. . . Too often, during the summers, I witnessed tragic deaths and injuries related to swimming pools, lakes and ponds. I knew when I had kids, that teaching them how to survive in the water was just as important as the car seat we chose. I have made it my mission in motherhood to educate others on water safety, and have been given the opportunity to reach more families by becoming OSA’s first Parent Ambassador. . . Q: WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO OSA? A: I was looking for one of those swim programs where the babies somehow learn to float, but also doesn’t traumatize me and my child in the process. A quick google search brought up OSA and I signed up for the mom and tot class when my now almost 6 year old was around 14-16 months and it was exactly what I was looking for. I fell in love with their compassion for teaching not just swimming and survival skills, but all things related to water safety in and around the pool. As a former Pediatric ICU nurse, this meant a lot to me and where my passion for water safety stems from. When I was offered the opportunity to start a parent ambassador program a little over a year ago it was a no brainer and I have loved every second of it. . . Q: IF YOU COULD EAT ANY MEAL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE? A: Sushi. All the fresh rolls you can bring me. . . Q: WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 MOVIES? A: I’m actually not a big movie person, which is the complete opposite of my husband. (Luckily opposites attract) But I’m always a sucker for an old classic Disney movie. Now if we’re talking sitcoms, top 3 are The Office, Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm . . Q: DO YOU HAVE ANY HOBBIES? A: Hobbies? What are hobbies? Oh, those things I did for fun before children.... yes. I love to play the piano and wish I had more time for it. . . Q: WHAT IS THE FUNNIEST OSA MEMORY THAT YOU HAVE? A: I don’t know that I have a funniest memory, but my favorite memory was watching my youngest, Cohen, take his first steps on the pool steps when we were at the Key Fit location for Megan Bachman . .
