Have I mentioned how much I love what I do!? I thoroughly enjoy spending day after day, week after week with my students... I love getting to know them and learning the unique quirks of their personalities that make them so special. I truly cherish the relationships I build with students and their families. I'm forever grateful to all of the parents that have entrusted me with their precious babes. #arizonainfantswim

The end of summer is right around the corner (technically!) but that doesn't mean drowning prevention should be bumped from our list of priorities. . Water safety is a year-long responsibility. I will be offering maintenance lessons in my heated pool during the off-season. Keep your kiddos' skills sharp once summer is over Stay tuned for details! #Repost @drownalliance

Parents may think they are supervising their little ones yet 69% of accidents occur when one or both parents were supposedly supervising their child. Multiple Layers of Protection are the solution to eradicating childhood drowning. A pool safety fence, isolating the pool from the home and all access points. High locks and alarms on all doors and windows with pool access.... Alarms both in the pool and worn on the child. Water survival training as soon as the child is crawling. And finally, CPR and rescue training. #Repost @lifesaverpoolfence See more

This makes me want to tell everyone I see - whether I know them or not - using puddle jumpers that they are the WORST thing you can do for your child! Please help me by telling your friends and family NOT to use these! And if your children use them, please please throw them away and enroll in survival swim lessons.

Why is it safer for younger children to learn survival floating rather than treading water? Their bodies aren’t suited to treading water: Kids have big, he...avy heads. Their heads are nearly two times the size of adult heads, in comparison to the rest of their bodies. This, combined with smaller lungs, makes them much less buoyant than adults when treading water. Kids have smaller hands, feet and muscles which makes it much harder for them to push themselves up vertically in the water. They may only be able to get their faces slightly above the water line (whereas adults can keep their entire heads up) with much greater effort and difficulty than adults would need to do the same thing. 30 Kid’s muscles tire out quickly and they are really only able to sustain this position for about 30 seconds before either being rescued or submerging under the water. Kids often assume the drowning position while trying to tread water (the two positions are very, very similar). They can’t make progress through the water in the treading position. BUT.Kids using the survival float position can: get into a back float, to rest and breathe. Make actual progress through the water-they can flip to their front, propel themselves through the water and then when they need air, flip back to their back and rest and breathe, all while maintaining a much easier, horizontal position in the water. 2 Can wait in their float for 2 minutes or more and call for help. -Can make use of their higher percentages of body fat when they are toddlers and babies, to help them with buoyancy in their float. Can work with their bigger heads and smaller muscles, to keep them in that resting, floating position, instead of against them, to try and tread. Remember, it is important for older kids and adults to learn to tread water. It does have its uses. But it is not the safest thing to try to rely on with younger kids, to help them save themselves in a water emergency. #survival #beavoice #children #kids #judahbrownroject #float
