In an effort to promote public safety with our fellow stakeholders, Breakwater has been a member of the Chicago Harbor Safety Committee for a few years. With boating season under way, check out this video produced by the CHSC that gives you great insights into our waterways, both the lake and the river, the history around the waterways, a look into our harbors and yacht clubs, and of course helpful tips in navigating and public safety. https://www.chicagoharborsafety.org/movie

Alliance for the Great Lakes recently organized a series of #ADOPTaBEACH events across all of the #GreatLakes. Breakwater Chicago co-founder Beau D'Arcy is a member of the Alliance for the Great Lakes Young Professional Council, which rallied 50 volunteers to help cleanup #OakStreetBeach here in #Chicago. The volunteers ended up bagging 85 pounds worth of cigarette butts, broken glass, screws, plastic bottles, and even an exit sign during the morning. After working up an appetite (and a thirst!) the volunteers went to a "thank you" party hosted by Hopsmith Tavern with cool beverages kindly provided by Great Lakes Brewing Company. It was a fun and productive morning but let's all do our part and please keep the beaches #LitterFree.

One of our Co-Founders, Ashvin Lad, recently shared with Chicago Inno how his cancer diagnosis prepared him to become an entrepreneur and to help make the vision of Breakwater Chicago a reality. You can read about it here. http://chicagoinno.streetwise.co//how-a-cancer-diagnosis-/

Great news from Shoreline Sightseeing and the extension (literally!) of their tour vessels in Chicago, Illinois. Tourism and demand for access to our waterways both continue to grow. Be sure to check out the shipyard photos in this article. Thank you, Steven Dahlman www.loopnorth.com/news/boats0517.htm

We love creative branding and - of course - all things maritime. After meeting the founder of Tugboat Coffee recently, it goes without saying... we're hooked!

As public safety and continuing to build stronger relationships with all stakeholders of the waterways, our team continues to be active in the Chicago Harbor Safety Committee. Today's meeting took place in a hidden gem, the Chicago Maritime Museum, which has been open for a year now. Every third Friday of the month, they have a free lecture series that includes food and beverages. Tomorrow's lecture is about the Battle of Fort Dearborn. We highly recommend checking out the museum.

Our co-founder Beau D'Arcy (HBS 2010) had the pleasure of accompanying Mayor Rahm Emanuel on a trip to Boston recently, in an effort to recruit some of the brightest minds to come to Chicago, Illinois after they graduate from Harvard University, Harvard Business School, Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard Graduate School of Design, and other graduate programs. While on campus the delegation was treated to a tour of the impressive Harvard Innovation Labs and even had a surprise visit with renowned Chicago architect Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang (e.g. Aqua, Vista, Northerly Island) who is a currently lecturing at the School of Design. A productive trip, all around... thanks World Business Chicago!

We've gotten to know this team in New York over the past few years as they try to enhance their local waterways as well. Our journey is very similar to theirs....make no small plans, right!?! When you have 10 minutes to spare, check out this video narrated by Neil Patrick Harris! https://youtu.be/qi9okFb6wvs

On September 16th, the Alliance for the Great lakes organized a series of beach cleanup events on beaches along all the Great Lakes. A group of about 50 volunteers, including Breakwater president, Beau D'Arcy, and other members from the A4GL's Young Professional Council, jumped into action by cleaning up trash all along Chicago's favorite beach. #ADOPTaBEACH #A4GL #A4GLYPC #BeachCleanUp #OakStreetBeach
