14.12.2021

SUMMER SHIRT ORDER DEADLINE IS HERE!! Did you get a chance to see the NNA Summer Shirt logo designed by none other than our Claire Harmon herself? This is the logo on the shirts that we will be wearing during our team pictures at the end of this month, and it’s also the "We’re Better Together Facebook logo too! Since our July Idlewild meet and the Donner Lake event were cancelled, this shirt sale is our primary fundraiser for the Summer, so please get your orders in by end... of the day this Friday, July 10th! Either bring in a check for $25 for each shirt to practice and let your coach know the sizes, orrrrrr if it’s more convenient, you can use the donation link on the NNA site AND MAKE SURE TO NOTE YOUR NAME AND SIZES in the instructions to the seller. https://www.paypal.com/donate/ Thank you and as we get better, stronger and faster during practice, please remember . . . WE’RE BETTER TOGETHER See you at the pool!!

The NNA Intrasquad Swim Meet on October 18th is Sanctioned!! We are safely conforming to all USA Swimming, Pacific Swimming, State of Nevada, Washoe County, and City of Reno guidelines. The meet is the first we have been able to attend for 7 months and kids will be able to record official times. All NNA swimmers are eligible, and entry is free! We will be asking for volunteers and possible donations to make it go off smoothly. Please go to the NNA website under "Events" for the Meet Sheet and a fillable entry form to get kids signed up. But hurry . . . the number of participants are very limited in this short meet format. http://northernnevadaaquatics.com

Awesome first day back swimming - social distanced . . . but swimming, and having fun with friends. Thanks to Erik for all his hard work getting us this far, the City for getting pools open quickly, and to our NNA coaches for making re-entry easy.

Help us find a solution to the pool shortage in Reno. Lifeguards needed!

11.12.2021

NNA families get in on the 2020 SUMMER SHIRT LOGO design! Use the NNA logos and your imagination to come up with an awesome design for our 2020 summer shirts. Send the design over to Erik at [email protected] by June 26th, and if judged the best design, it could appear on the 2020 NNA summer shirts that we will receive during the team picture day in July.

A most appropriate quote from John Wooden, one of the best coaches of all time, in any sport. His teams won an unheard of 7 NCAA basketball championships in a row. I saw the Blue team swim a 500 Butterfly a few months ago . . . I bet before they did it they didn't think they could . . .

Moana Pool has been closed since 2007. With Lakeridge closing and limited space and capacity at Northwest, our local swimmers are in crisis. Please help us keep Idlewild open over the winter.

03.12.2021

Looking forward to getting back in the pool, most of the Nevada swim teams are united with USA and Pacific Swimming's recommendation to open pools as part of the Governor's Phase 2 reopening. Chlorine not only is the best perfume, but also kills COVID!!

RENO WE NEED YOUR HELP!! Tomorrow, September 22, there is a special meeting of the City Council. Given the urgency of our current pool crisis, this seems like as good a time as any to register for public comment. All the information for doing so is in the attached. The public needs to express our dire need for Idlewild to stay open year round until the Moana Springs project is complete. As I told Jenny Brekhus and Devon Reese this morning: "While the recent legislative bill... for parks and recreation is a measure that brings hope for the future, the future we were hopeful for when Moana Pool closed in 2007 is gone. Time is up. A crisis is when something can't wait. This is the official tipping point. We need long term solutions, such as enclosing Traner and completing the Moana Springs Pool, but we need short term solutions today. If Idlewild Pool closes October 3, there is NO ROOM for existing swimmers and citizens to fit into Northwest and Northeast pools alone. Period. The Northeast Pool reopens October 4 and it won't even be operating at full capacity (meaning hours). It's currently scheduled to close at 6 pm daily because they don't enough staff for it. If our community had access to it until 9:00 pm Mon-Fri, this alone would expand the programming by 15 hours weekly. In the immediate, we need your help to keep Idlewild Pool year round until a new pool is built. This is the best immediate solution by far. Many communities of similar and more extreme weather keep their outdoor pools open year round. The user groups are willing to help with private funding to keep it open if the City can staff it. Even keeping it open 9 months annually instead of 12 weeks would make a huge difference. Keeping Idlewild open year round is only a bandaid, but it would be a bandaid that addresses the immediate crisis. I look forward to your response. Our community looks forward to your response. This is an urgent matter. Thank you. Andrea Sullivan Jo Ann Porter Glover Dentistry Heather Gallagher Smith Jorie Turner Erik Scalise

Yes . . . It’s during our Sunday practice . . . but it definitely isn’t practice! This will be the first opportunity since February to get an official time for your veteran swimmers, or let your hard working novices try those skills they have been working on in a real meet! * This is an Intrasquad meet only for Covid rules compliance, NNA swimmers can enter 1 to 4 events for FREE. Complete and follow the directions on the form in "Events" on the NNA website. * Meet entries ...close on midnight 10/12/2020 (or when full). * Small donations are appreciated to help with awards, meet, pool and cleaning expenses - go to "donations" on the NNA website. * WATCH YOUR KIDS SWIM LIVE! Be a volunteer timer . . . email [email protected] for the opportunity, and note whether you prefer 10 - 11 or 11 - 12. Hurry though before all spots are gone.

Get ready for swimming on June 6th! There will be restrictions on the number of swimmers per lane, and the times lanes are available, but we will be smelling chlorine and seeing friends soon! Erik is working on the best ways to comply with the swimmers per lane limit (it's going to be tricky), and will have more information to everyone soon. Be on the lookout for details by email, and an important team Zoom meeting to discuss. USA Swimming DeckPass, and Safe... Sport certification . . . In the meantime, USA Swimming is pushing clubs to get Safe Sport certified. This week would be an awesome time for swimmers and parents to head to the USA Swimming site, sign up for a Deckpass account (where swimmers win patches, get technique assistance, and can track progress on times), view the Safe Sport videos, and get certified! Detailed information is available on the NNA website in the Safe Sport tab. https://www.usaswimming.org/sign-in
