Working together in times of COVID... A picture says a thousand words, watch the story on ABS TV or read the full APUA Press Release here: APUA Receives Gifts from Kind Donors ST. JOHN’S Antigua, May 21st 2020 The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) Water Business Unit is now the recipient of a generous donation of reverse osmosis equipment following a handing-over event held on Thursday May 21st, 2020. A conglomerate of local donor agencies to include: Coco Point, J...umby Bay and Mill Reef Funds donated a combination of spare parts for the Barbuda Reverse Osmosis Plant valued at almost $140,000 ECD. In attendance at the small event were Caribbean Water Treatment Managing Director, Mr. Mario Bento, Mill Reef Club Managing Director, Mr. Daniel Brown, APUA Water Production Engineer, Mr. Tesfa Francis, and APUA Public Relations Coordinator, Sharifa George. We were approached about a year ago now by a group of donor agents wanting to come together to assist APUA to get all the parts and assistance that they needed to have the desalination plant in Barbuda be able to produce water consistently and at full production and the best quality possible, following the passage of Hurricane Irma said Mr. Bento as he explained the involvement of Caribbean Water Treatment in procuring the equipment. Presently, the Barbuda Reverse Osmosis Plant is operating at name-plate capacity but what these spare parts will do is allow us to have replacements ready should any issues arise and the down-time will be significantly less in those instances, said APUA Production Engineer, Mr. Tesfa Francis. With these parts, the APUA Water Business Unit would be able to deliver a more reliable water service to our customers in Barbuda. The donation included a Piston Set, Valve Plate Set, Retainer Set, Seal Set, Swash Plate Set, Booster Pump, Center Manifold, Grundfos Submersible Well Pump, two (2) Variable Speed Drive 45kW and a Well Pump VFD. This is a part of a holistic vision for all three (3) funds: Coco Point Fund, Mill Reef Fund and Jumby Bay Fund and we continue to pledge our commitment to the Antigua community and to the Barbudan community to continue to enrich lives, said the representative of the donor agencies, Mr. Daniel Brown. On behalf of the Minister of Public Utilities, Civil Aviation, Transport and Energy, the Board of Commissioners, Management and Staff of APUA, we extend sincere gratitude to the donors for their substantial contribution to improving the quality of water service to residents of Barbuda, said Francis. The APUA Water Business Unit currently owns and operates six (6) reverse osmosis plants; five (5) in Antigua and one (1) in Barbuda to produce a total of 7 mil imperial gallons. See more
