Good morning swimmers & floaters. Recently, a Tiktok video of a swim instructor throwing a small child into a pool has gone viral, and most recently was repor...ted on Fox & Friends this morning. Many parents have been asking about it, many thinking it was an ISR instructor. (I won’t be tagging the video here, as I don’t want it to have more attention). Please know, an ISR instructor would never let a child be in the pool alone, nor would we throw your child into the pool! We do gentle simulations of fall ins towards the end of your course of lessons, to increase your child’s aquatic problem solving skills. Morning Lessons Moving to Turtle Mound! Hello Friends. We are excited to announce that as of August 10th morning lessons will be moving to a private, screened ...pool near the intersection of Lake Washington and I-95! Afternoon lessons will stay in SW Palm Bay, just a couple minutes south of Bayside High School. Please share and spread to word. There currently isn't an ISR instructor in the Turtle Mound area. Is your little one being taught to blow bubbles in their current swim lessons? We know this is a well-intentioned attempt to get them to put their face in, but... unfortunately it is an outdated & ineffective approach to learning to swim. In ISR lessons, your instructor's first priority will be establishing proper breath control. This means your little one will learn to effectively hold their breath while submerged. Are lessons REALLY just 10 minutes?! We know, we know....it sounds a little crazy but this is very much by design. Here's a bit of info as to why we do short,... frequent lessons in ISR... It's the way young children learn As babies, we don't practice walking once a week. Standing, balancing, cruising are done in tiny increments each day as part of our experience of learning to walk. And similar to walking, swimming is a sensorimotor skill best learned by experience over time. Kids thrive on routine The consistency of the daily lesson schedule creates an optimal learning environment. When kids know where they are going, who they will be with, and what is expected of them they begin to feel confident and secure, building trust with their instructor as they are taught these priceless skills. It’s WORK! People often think of swimming as a "for fun" activity, but they forget...it's a workout! Little bodies get tired quickly, and fatigued muscles + water (the most unforgiving environment on the planet) = dangerous. Safety is our top priority, so instructors closely monitor your child's fatigue to ensure they are practicing efficiently for an optimal learning experience.
