Finally got some time to make some videos. I tried to include as many kiddos as possible. Thank you for trusting me with your kids!

You'd never know it now, but this girlie is a non fatal drowning survivor of almost 2 years. She is now so so confident and competent in the water. Look at that smile! FYI--she used to wear a puddle jumper before her accident. Now she is her own floatation device.

Another adorable Live Like Jake ISR scholarship graduate: Week 1- So far he hates it, but he’ll get there! Week 2- C is slowly making progress, still cries but ...is starting to float! Week 3- He is turning and coming up for his float when he’s dropped in. It’s awesome to watch! He’ll be ready to check out next week. Week 4- He checked out with flying colors! Did such a great job with summer and winter clothes! Looked like a professional floater! #LiveLikeJake #drowningisPREVENTABLE #teachthemtoSURVIVE #ISRsaveslives #cryingbabyisabreathingbaby www.livelikejake.com www.infantswim.com Isr Tracy Wheeler

Floaties-Puddle jumpers, water wings, ring floaties, neck rings. We believe they all have one thing in common: THEY EACH CONTRIBUTE TO CHILD DROWNINGS!! We bel...ieve this is how: 1. They automatically put children in a vertical position in the water and that is the drowning position. They teach children’s muscles to remember that drowning position. This makes drowning faster! 2.They teach children to bicycle their arms and legs, in order to propel through the water. This is known as treading water, but it expends too much energy and kids cannot keep it up for long enough to get rescued or save themselves. They tire out in less than a minute and will then drown. 3. These devices prevent kids from learning to reach their arms out in front of them for any swimming stroke and from putting their heads in the water to help them get into a horizontal (swimming and breathing position) in the water. 4. They contribute to water phobia because they don’t allow water on the face and therefore don’t allow children to become used to the water being on their faces. If the water hits their face in an emergency, the child is more likely to panic and freeze and then not be able to help themselves. 5. All of these devices create a false sense of safety for the child, when used in the pool. The child thinks they can swim because they have confidence in the water (from wearing the device every single time they are in the water). They don’t know how their own bodies react in the water without a flotation device on and they don’t make the connection that the device is what keeps them floating and not themselves. 6. This false sense of safety does not commonly happen when US Coast Guard approved flotation devices are used ONLY in open water, most likely because when they aren’t using a device at the pool (most children’s learning to swim place), the child learns about what their own bodies can and can’t do in the water and they realize they can’t float or swim on their own yet. 7. All of these devices create a false sense of safety for adults. Adults tend to not be as vigilant around the water when they put their kids in these devices. 8. None of these devices are Coast Guard approved except the Puddle Jumper. Puddle Jumpers are Coast Guard approved at the lowest level possible-below life buoys, which are only meant to throw to someone and quickly pull them out of the water. They are marketed as a swim aid, but NO device is a swim aid. Instead of using flotation devices, children should learn to float on their backs and learn survival swim techniques, as well as adults always having one-on-one touch supervision with their children (a parent or adult never being outside of an arm’s reach of a non-swimmer) in and around the water. It has become very popular for parents to use flotation devices in places they were never meant to be used (like the pool), thinking that’s what keeps the kids safe. During the time they are in the water, the devices keep them floating, but we believe they also teach them all the points above. Most drownings happen when it’s NOT swim time, meaning they happen when kids sneak back to the pool without you, after swim time is over, and that means they won’t have the device on at the time that they drown. If they learn what their bodies can and can’t do in the water by not using the devices, they are much less likely to sneak back to the water, because they will know by their experience that they can’t swim. US Coast Guard approved Life Vests are the only safe floatation device and we believe that even they should NOT be used at a pool. They should only be used in open water like oceans, lakes and rivers (where it is very important that they are used and where they were designed to be used). They were never meant to be used in pools. Pools are where kids learn what their own bodies can do in the water. They need to do that without a flotation device on, to develop respect for the water. They need to have lessons that teach them to float on their backs so that they can breathe and wait for help, and then need to learn to swim so that they can rescue themselves. They need you to always stay within an arm’s reach of them while in or around water, until they learn to swim on their own. They need you to never put them back into the device while learning to swim or after they have learned, because the devices will unteach them all of the skills they have learned in lessons. That’s why we say NO to floaties! Join us in our mission to make sure all children are taught to float, all parents know the dangers of floatation devices in the pool and all Puddle Jumpers and other floatation devices stop being used. Bring us your Puddle Jumpers and other floatation devices and let us help you choose life saving survival swim lessons instead! Skills before thrills. Teach your child to be safe in water before they learn that it can be fun too.

14.12.2021

If your child wears a puddle jumper, you need to watch this. ISR is for EVERY Child. EVERY child needs to learn this skill. We can stop the leading cause of accidental death for children under 4. What's holding you back??

This kiddo can find his air from facedown in the water. He can't walk, but he can float! And now he's safe, just like his big sisters are. Next year, he'll be happy and swimming just like them! #centralohioisr #isr #castinghope #notonemorechilddrowns

It's Science!!: There is a place within advanced swimming skills to learn blowing out; within the stroke cycle, during arm recovery. (Does this sound connect...ed to anything your infant or toddler is developmentally ready for?!) Blowing air out of the lungs (our internal life preserver) is not appropriate during initial stages of learning proper swim postures and controlling buoyancy. It's simply an outdated and ineffective way to get kids faces in the water a "fun" way. Once again, placing fun before safety and thus increasing your child's chances of a drowning accident. #sheilasfish #gemcityswim #survivalswimlessons #theisrdifference #facts #floating #bestofdayton2019

Tips for what to buy for your child for that spring break trip or summer swimming!!

More than 80% of children who find water accidentally do so in normal clothes, not swim clothes. Winter is creeping in on us and these kiddos have the skills to save themselves if they find water when it’s cold outside. #isr #infantswimmingresource #centralohioisr #notonemorechilddrowns #emmyandlevi

Did you know there is a difference between self-rescue swim lessons and traditional swim lessons?? I really wish I would have done my homework with Jake and un...derstood the differences between the types of lessons. Jake had 5 weeks of traditional swim lessons and never learned how to swim and even if had learned it would not have saved him in his situation. He fell into the Intracoastal waterway FULLY clothed and in the dark. The only thing that would have saved him is if he had learned to self-rescue and WITH his clothes on. Wet clothes add 5-10 pounds depending on what they are wearing so even if they know how to swim or float it might not save them if they haven't practiced in clothes. So please do your homework and choose a program that teaches your child how to rollback and float NOT one that teaches them to blow bubbles or one that uses any type of floatation device. The difference can mean life or death for your young child. If you would like to find an ISR instructor in your area or learn more about the program visit www.infantswim.com There are other self-rescue programs out there but my children have gone through ISR so I know this program very well and totally support their methods! #livelikejake #becauseofjake #isrsaveslives #teachthemtosurvive #doyourresearch #dontblowbubbles #DrowningIsPreventable www.livelikejake.org

PPCD wants every parent and caregiver to know DROWNING is the leading cause of unintentional injury (accidental) death in children aged 1-4 years old. Layers o...f protection are vital to prevent this accident from happening. Learn more about the layers of protection at parentspreventingchildooddrowning.com. We want everyone to know.... because many parents who lose children to drowning say "I didn't know." https://wisqars-viz.cdc.gov:8006/lcd/drill-down

Worried about Dry Drowning? The terminology is confusingbut the fact is.... drowning is drowning. There are no medically accepted conditions known a...s near-drowning, dry drowning, or secondary drowning A drowning has only three outcomes: fatal drowning, nonfatal drowning with injury or illness, or nonfatal drowning without injury or illness In the setting of ISR lessons, we have STRICT protocols and procedures to ensure that these scenarios won’t occur Breath control is our #1 priority and is established at the beginning of lessons. Submersions are strategic and closely monitored. We screen children before lessons begin to make sure they are healthy and ready for a SAFE lesson If you do have an incident while in the water, you will have respiratory symptoms RIGHT AWAY. You might cough and have a harder time breathing for a few minutesbut generally this gets better quickly. Care should be sought if symptoms seem any worse than the experience of a drink going down the wrong pipe at the dinner table or severe coughing that does not resolve itself in minutes. These symptoms would be easily noticed as abnormal. In short, your child is not going to go swimming, swallow some water, have no issues in the water whatsoever, and then suddenly die without warning 4 days later from swimming. There has NOT been a documented case where someone had been perfectly healthy, had an incident in the water with NO SYMPTOMS until days later, and then suddenly died of drowning (what is often thought of as dry drowning) Be a voice and educate your friends!
