Thunderstorms and your pool! A thunderstorm will sometimes turn an outdoor swimming pool green, why you ask? Thunderstorms have lightning and rain as well as a few resounding claps of thunder. The flashes of lightning, apart from lighting up a night sky, create nitrogen in the atmosphere and the rain washes that nitrogen down and into your pool.... Nitrogen is a plant food, and a very good one. The algae in your pool, and there are always traces in even the best maintained pool, are plants and so they thrive on the extra nitrogen that is washed down when the heavens open. Algae are microscopic and so, when there are just a few of them, they are invisible to the human eye but feeding on the nitrogen, they bloom and multiply very quickly until there are enough to turn the pool water green and murky. One way of avoiding a thunderstorm turning your pool green is to shock the pool with chlorine as soon as possible after the storm. Special thanks to YourPool.com for this easy to follow explanation for us to share with our customers!

So this originally started due to a story that Det. Jared Campbell read on Facebook about a protest that turned into a community picnic and get together in Kans...as. What was originally planned as a protest march turned into a cookout where Wichita Police and a diverse group of residents broke bread together is how the article started and it grabbed my attention. Reportedly a BLM group went and met with the Chief to discuss plans for the march/protest and by the end of the discussion they decided to have a cookout at one of the city parks instead. The goal was to open communication and build trust between police and the communities they serve is a quote from the article. Det. Campbell thought to himself that was a great idea. He shared the article on Facebook saying I thought it would be a good idea to open those lines of communication, have some real discussions, ask the difficult questions if they needed to be asked, and work together to make our community a better, safer place. Since that Facebook post happened, meetings have happened and here we are with our first Community Picnic Brenham Better Together. There will be a DJ, door prizes, yard games etc. This event should be a good community event to help First Responders get to know the Community better and the community can put a face with the responder behind badge. Save the Date!! See more
