2 more precious littles are equipped with life saving skills!

21.12.2021

3 more littles completed their initial 6 week session this week and are equipped with life saving skills should they find themselves in water alone!

Thank you so much to La Vernia News for providing me a platform to educate the families in our community about water safety and drowning prevention!

ISR lessons are for every child, but not for every parent. Your child will cry, and they will not like it, not at first anyway. But let’s put this into perspective. If you were to hand your child over to a stranger, fully dressed let’s say at the mall, what do you think is going to happen? Your child is probably going to cry, right? My son cries nearly every time I buckle him into his car seat; does this mean I'm going to let him be unrestrained in my car? Absolutely not. I let him cry because it is about his safety.

Never leave children alone in or near the water, even for a minute. Supervision is vital in preventing drowning! when supervision fails, and it do...es, you need these back-up #LayersOfProtection in place: A , isolating the pool from the home and all access points. High on all doors and windows with pool access. both in the and . as soon as the child is crawling. and rescue training. ! See more

Jana Kramer recently posted on Instagram that her 2 children were enrolled in ISR when they in fact weren’t. From an instructors point of view, it was very clear from the videos that it wasn’t Infant Swimming Resource. The same goes for the recent TikTok video of a lady throwing a baby in the water and hashtagging ISR. Many swim schools attempt to mimic ISR, but are your children actually learning from a Certified ISR Instructor?

MAINTENANCE LESSONS: Who wants to come this week? I’m planning on opening 2 slots/day and adding more if needed. Next weeks weather looks iffy. Times for this week are 4:40 & 4:50.

19.12.2021

With 71% of the Earth’s surface being water and children being ever so curious, ISR is so important!

We are all in survival mode. Many of our bathtubs look like the one below or are filled with water just in case our water is shut off again. If you have a small child, PLEASE CLOSE AND SECURE YOUR BATHROOM DOOR. Drowning can happen in as little as 20 seconds with as little as 2 of water. Drowning is the leading cause of death in children ages 1-4 & more than half of drownings among infants (under age 1) occur in bathtubs.... Stay warm & stay safe everyone!

18.12.2021

There will be no maintenance lessons this week as I’m trying to wrap this session up. Maintenance lessons and refreshers will resume next week and I plan on closing for the year on October 30th. Make sure and sign your little’s up to ensure their skills are as fine tuned as possible. Little ones that have grown a lot since their initial session and have learned to crawl, walk, or run may need multiple lessons so that their existing skills can adapt to their new bodies. Drowning knows no season!

This is why we stress layers of protection. Survival swim lessons, constant supervision, pool fences, locking gates, and alarms to name a few are CRITICAL. Praise Jesus this momma was watching her babies when this happened.

The puddle jumper....the flotation device moms love. They are cute. They look fun and inviting and they give our kids independence in the water.....we think the...y keep our kids safe....but do they? This post is extremely hard for me. I was that mom who put my beautiful 3 year old baby boy in one of these devices. The packaging told me it would help him stay safe. Other moms told me it would help him stay safe. All I wanted to do was keep him safe. That’s it. That was my sole reason for buying and using this device. I learned after my beautiful baby boy drowned that this device was a major factor in his accident. This is why... 1) Puddle jumpers automatically put children in a vertical position in the water... and that is the drowning position. Puddle jumpers teach children muscle memory for that position so that when they get in water, they will automatically go vertical, whether they have the device on or not. This makes drowning faster!!! 2) Puddle Jumpers teach children to bicycle their arms and legs in order to propel through the water. This expends huge amounts of energy and contributes significantly to drowning incidents because it cannot be sustained for very long. 3) Puddle Jumpers prevent kids from learning to reach their arms out in front of them for any swimming stroke and from putting their heads in the water to help get into a horizontal (swimming and breathing position) in the water. 4) Puddle Jumpers contribute to water phobia because they don’t allow water on the face and therefore don’t allow children to become used to the water being on their faces. If the water does hit their face in an emergency situation, the child is more likely to panic and freeze and then not be able to help themselves. 5) Puddle Jumpers create a false sense of security for the child. The child thinks they can swim because they have built confidence in the water with the device, using it during swim times. They don’t know how their own bodies react in the water without a flotation device on and then they don’t make the connection that the device is what keeps them floating and not themselves. So, when the opportunity arises for them to get into water (even when they aren’t supposed to be in it), they are much more likely to do so without the device, thinking they can swim on their own, when they really can’t. 6) Puddle Jumpers create a false sense of security for adults. Adults tend to not be as vigilant around the water when they put their kids in these devices. So, as an example, during a break when a parent might be attending to another child, their little one may have their puddle jumper off temporarily and because the parent has trained themselves not to have to be as vigilant, they have a lapse in supervision for a few seconds. In that time, the little one can end up in the pool without the device that holds them up in the water and can drown! It only takes 20 seconds!!! 7) Puddle Jumpers are coast guard approved but at the lowest level possible-below life buoys. They are not reliable as a safety measure in any water that is not completely calm. They are marketed as a swim aid. But flotation devices of any kind should never be used as a swim aid because of reasons number 1-6 above. Children should learn survival swim and have one on one touch supervision (a parent or adult never being outside of an arm’s reach of a non-swimmer) in and around the water instead. My son thought he could swim, because I put this device on him during swim times and he learned and adopted the 6 points above. He went to the water without his puddle jumper...he drowned...he died. He was only gone from my sight for a minute or two. It only takes 20 seconds. Why not puddle jumpers? Because your child’s life is not worth the risk that using these devices can and do pose. Do you have a puddle jumper story? Would you share below? #dontletthemdrown #beavoice #saynotopuddlejumpers Melissa Correa KHOU

Most aquatic accidents happen when children are fully clothed. Because we don’t want the first time they experience being fully clothed in the water to be by themselves, we have lessons dedicated to winter and summer clothes. There is no room for trial and error in the water. #isr #infantswimmingresource #southtexasisr #southtexasinfantswimmingresource #selfrescue #survivalswimlessons #notonemorechilddrowns #layersofprotection #laverniatx #lavernia #texas

Scrambling for a last minute ?! Give the gift of survival to a special kiddo in your life ISR lessons are for the littlest of beginners (we start at 6 mont...hs of age ) as well as toddlers, preschoolers, and young children. Even for those kiddos with basic aquatic skills...if they lack the confidence to be fully independent in water, ISR lessons can get them there! Head to www.infantswim.com to find an instructor near you!

Hi Momma’s! At the end of BUDS when I ask if there are any questions, this is definitely the most discussed item. This is great educational information that will hopefully put your mind at ease regarding this topic.

But these lessons didn’t teach him any safety for the water. In fact, these classes encouraged him to feel safe and comfortable in the water without teaching him how to respect it. They made him fearless. They reinforced the water as a place for him to play and we encouraged it at home. He was too young to understand the risks. So, why wouldn’t he jump in the pool that evening after getting through the dog door? Little did I know that his puddle jumper was horribly detr...imental. These flotation devices train your child to float in a vertical position. In a position of drowning. They also give the child a false sense of security and confidence in the pool. The problem is not necessarily when they are wearing it, but when they make it to the pool without it. When children who are used to wearing these devices do not have them on, they attempt to float in the same vertical position, which is impossible to do. They are unable to get their head above water to breathe. If left unnoticed, they could drown in as little as 30 seconds. See more

Amber Emily Smith is honoring her son, River, by educating parents about how quickly drowning can happen and the importance of a multi-layered water safety plan... for all families. Layers like pool fences, supervision, alarms, locks, knowing CPR, and quality survival swim lessons, like ISR Self-Rescue, can help protect your family. After she and her husband, Granger Smith, lost their beloved son, they set up a River Smith T-shirt tribute, with all proceeds benefitting Dell Children’s Medical Center where River was treated. They also founded The River Kelly Fund to seek out and determine areas of need and invest in those most affected. They are turning heartache into hope and it’s truly inspirational. #livelikeriv Find a Certified Infant Swimming Resource Instructor near you at InfantSwim.com. #parenting #children #drowningprevention

An update on Levi. This momma’s pain in unimaginable. Please consider equipping your children with life saving survival skills. You can’t allow yourself to believe that this will never happen to you.

My last graduate of 2020! It was hard to teach this sweet boy because all he wanted to do was snuggle! I’m so proud of him!

I was nervous to share the video of Willow falling in and floating. Would people shame me? No... . Hundreds of beautiful responses and only one semi-...negative one. And, a whole slew of pissed off people came to the defense before I even read it. Would people see the video and make assumptions that survival swim is just some sink or swim approach (if is NOOOOTTTTT) and not enroll their child? Nope. People watched my precious angel baby get oxygen and said my child needs this skill. I am grateful. I am grateful. I am grateful. Apparently, I am also... always oversharing in my stories. I have two highlights with the most asked questions another water safety (Willow Swim / Willow Swim 2) . The most important questions to ask as you look for swim lessons: * Do they focus on survival? * Will my child make progress in weeks (NOT months)? * Will my child learn to float? Please don’t wait until you think your child is ready. Find a quality program that emphasizes survival that works for your family and prioritize it. I am truly so grateful.

Disclaimer: While Shawn and Andrew call these lessons ISR, Drew isn’t actually being taught by a Certified ISR Instructor. My personal opinion though, while I believe ISR is the best not only because it saved my daughters life but also because I went through the extensive training program to become an ISR Instructor, your child being equipped with life saving, drowning prevention skills is SO much more important then who they are taught by. Am I passionate about who I work for? Absolutely. But I am more passionate about what I do. I love that regardless of who is teaching their daughter, the East’s are advocating for such an important cause!

Is ease and comfort worth your child’s safety?
