Halloween will look different this year, and that's OK! While many of the traditional Halloween activities can be high-risk for spreading viruses, here are a few alternative ways to participate in Halloween: Carving or decorating pumpkins Decorating your house, apartment, or living space Having a virtual Halloween costume contest... It’s called the ‘dog paddle’ for a reason ‘doggy paddling’ is a swim stroke for our K-9 companions, NOT humans! Learning to move frantically in a ‘doggy paddle’ can place swimmers at risk by reinforcing bad habits. Remember, for your child to swim safely, their body position must be horizontal, which allows swimmers to propel themselves forward while floating at the water’s surface. The ‘doggy paddle’ encourages a vertical body position, which requires much more energy to move and breathe, causing swimmers to get tired much more quickly. Ditch the ‘doggy paddle’ in favor of water survival strokes!

Did you know that pumpkins float? We want your children to float, too! Our program begins by teaching children basic survival techniques like floating on their back. Many drownings occur when children are not expected to be swimming - that’s where floating comes in, as it allows children to roll onto their back and rest at the water’s surface. While floating, children can breathe without obstruction or difficulty, yell out for help if they are unable to swim to safety, or rest until they’re able to propel themselves to the edge of the pool! Start learning life saving survival techniques today at BritishSwimSchool.com!

MYTH: Children can learn and master swimming skills in just a few weeks. REALITY: Swimming, like most activities, is a skill that takes time to perfect and practice makes perfect! Many parents expect to see immediate results from swimming lessons but it’s important to remember that learning to swim is a journey NOT an eight-week session. Be patient, be consistent, and celebrate the small victories along the way!
