Explore underwater world. A great place to start is at the steps. Kids have control, they can stand or crawl around, hold on to the step and kick. Our goal is to teach them how to get the feel of buoyancy, confidence in the water. While playing on the steps, give them as much freedom as you can, don’t hold them, just be ready to catch. (with the adult in the water of course))... Getting face or full head underwater is necessary for everyone in order to learn how to swim efficiently. The younger your child is the easier the process of getting them underwater. So don’t wait until they turn 2 or 4yo. Start from dumping water on their heads in the bath tub (every session at least couple of times) The hardest part for parents is when kids start crying, sometimes inhale water and cough. But keep it brief, distract with toys or switch the activity. First step in everything is to give it a try. My son didn’t like to be even close to ocean water. He didn’t mind to play with sand but would not even put his feet in the ocean. Only when he turned 4, through playing, we were able to get him in salt water. He loves it now.
