CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR COACH MARIA THRASH this Sunday, October 18th at the park across from Buena Vida Tapas & Sol, 385 N. Angier Ave, Atlanta, GA at 3:30pm. Buena Vida will be contributing champagne for a toast and if you want to eat at BV before or after, please make reservations. Outside bar will be open for drinks. 15% of proceeds will be donated to @dynamoswimclub in Maria’s name. Parking on the street or paid parking in North + Line Apts parking deck. Please wear a mask, wear Dynamo gear and follow social distancing recs. Also most importantly, please bring stories and memories of Maria to share!

It is with heavy heart that we share the passing of our dear friend Maria Thrash. For nearly 40 years she has been a part of Dynamo, first as a swimmer and eventually leading the masters program. So many have passed through her presence and have felt her lasting impact. She taught us how to swim, how to swim faster and eventually how to push beyond what we saw as our limits. We are incredibly thankful for her impact on our Dyna family. We will carry her with us and honor her through our actions. #gogreen #GRIT #ohana

Maria inspired us all with her dedication and grit. We are all lucky to have had the chance to be impacted by her powerful personality and caring heart. Over the last 24 hours Dynamo dedicates over 600 miles in honor of Coach Maria. With those swims we could: -Swim to her Alma Mater, Clemson, 3 times round trip. -Complete the swimming leg of 250 Iron Man Triathlons... -Swim the entire distance of the Hawaiian Islands, Twice! Dynamo Swim Club has established a 3-year partnership with Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), a national non-profit developing Better Athletes, Better People by working to provide all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building sports experience. The partnership provides Dynamo access to PCA’s training for coaches, sports parents, student-athletes, and administrators, through live group workshops, online courses, books by PCA Founder Jim Thompson, and addit...ional online resources, such as follow-up tips and reminders. PCA has partnered with roughly 3,500 youth sports organizations, schools, districts, conferences, and park-and-rec departments to create a Development Zone culture, where the goal is using youth and high school sports to develop Better Athletes, Better People. We look forward to working with Dynamo Swim Club to create the best possible experience for the youth athletes, said Positive Coaching Alliance CEO, Chris Moore. Our research-based materials combine the latest in sports psychology, education, and practical advice from top professional and college coaches and athletes that help improve athletic performance while also ensuring kids take life lessons from sports that will help them throughout the rest of their lives. Dynamo reaches nearly 1000 athletes annually between its competitive and pre-competitive programs. We are thrilled to partner with the Positive Coaching Alliance and look forward to using PCA tools as we continue to shape champions in life through the sport of swimming, said Dynamo Head Coach, Ian Murray. Initial workshops with the Board of Directors and Coaching Staff are already being planned.
