Names are an integral part of ones identity, unfortunately many trans people are currently living with names that don’t reflect who they are. Changing ones name... in Louisiana can be prohibitively expensive so on March 31st for Trans Day of Visibility. Hell or High Water will have a flash event to raise funds to aid in that process. If you’re not interested in being tattooed but interested in donating, or if you’re a trans person currently trying to legalize your chosen name please email [email protected]
Some people probably wonder why I wear shirts that identify me as trans. The answer is multi-faceted. First off, I want to destroy stereotypes regarding what a... trans person looks like. Often society expects trans women to hyper-feminize in an attempt to better fit into another gender stereotype. I refuse to do this. Society can no more dictate my presentation than they could dictate presentation of a Cisgender individual. I refuse to live in someone else's box. Secondly, I do this to illustrate that I will not live in fear because of who I am. I am as God made me, and denying that identity by means of stealth means admitting that I am ashamed of who I am. I will not be made to feel ashamed, and I refuse to live in fear. Thirdly, there are countless others who are (secretly) just like me. If seeing me thriving in a hostile world gives them the courage to accept their own identity, then the sacrifice of anonymity is completely worth it. Never be afraid to who you are, and don't ever allow yourself to live in another person's box just to keep them pacified. This is your life, not theirs.
