Erm how is it October already?? This summer has been the best one yet for @sandandpalm! You guys have kept me extremely busy (and sane) this summer, and I’m feeling huge gratitude for all your orders and support for my small and growing business. Thank you for believing in my work and allowing me to continue to create for you . The swimwear orders are slowing, but that’s OK - I’m looking forward to having space to allow new ideas to come in. I’ll spend some time ...soon away from my sewing machine, gathering inspiration, drawing, painting, designing and coming up with some fresh designs. You can expect more autumnal hemp items, fresh artwork and new prints, long sleeved swimwear for the cold water swimmers and lots more newness. As the summer draws to a close I’m starting to think about making some autumnal hemp pieces - soft, cosy items to layer up for the beach, walks, yoga or after surfs and swims. What would you guys be interested in for the autumn? I’ve had suggested leggings, jogging bottoms, long-sleeved crop tees so far, any other suggestions? Also are you still into the tie dye, if so you’re in luck as there’s more of that coming soon too!! @ste_marques in her Lumen hemp top which she confesses to only ever taking off when it needs washing as it’s so soft (side note: hemp is naturally antibacterial and doesn’t absorb odours so it actually hardly ever needs washing!)

Well that’s a wrap folks! The online store is now closed and the last of this year's orders are in the post. You have truly been a dream this year, my sand&palm familia. You have keep me motivated, in-business and determined to keep my small business growing throughout the challenges that this year has thrown at us. Thank you for everything. I hope I have given you a little bit of beauty and inspiration in return ... Our last day open at the shop is this Sunday, come say hello at The Wesley Yard Winter Wonderland 12pm-4pm for Christmas offers, mulled wine and festive vibes with @sailawaydresscompany, @hayleyscottblooms, @ride_and_defy, @thebottle.nqy, @yoshimi.salon, @_rockandritual & @isseyyoga. THEN on Tuesday my mum and I are off to Portugal for a couple of months! (Should everything go to plan and there are no new developments between now and then!) It’s a kind of sabbatical. I’m not going anywhere NEAR a sewing machine. I’m taking a sketchbook or 2, some pencils, paints and a camera. I’m going to wonder unfamiliar lands and soak it in, find perspective, sketch, play, explore, read, rest, write, dream, draw palm trees, photograph palm trees, meditate, re-evaluate, create, and when inspiration arrives I’ll be ready. I had some requests for a higher-leg bikini bottom, and this is the design that we came up with. Not too skimpy to be annoying in the surf but still a bit on the cheeky side. Earlier in the summer I was asked by the lovely Gemma, founder of @cabinetjewellery if I would be interested in taking part in a collaborative shoot. I fell in love with Gemma’s beautifully exotic designs and it was an instant YES PLEASE! Spending much of her childhood in the West Indies where her parents lived for nearly 20 years, Gemma grew fascinated with the continually changing life and colour both above and below the surface of the crystal clear ocean. There ...are so many things unearthed in a Nor’wester storm that may not be solid gold, but I would certainly call treasures, Critchley says. I named the brand after the curiosity-filled cabinets that I began to fill and the new ones I would come across while scouring antique shops, flea markets, and reclamation yards. The studio is based in Devon and they work with skilled trade’s people at Birmingham jewellery quarter, producing their gold and silversmith work in the UK, ensuring quality craftsmanship. Gemma worked with the talented @chloeuptonstudio on this shoot and they did an incredible job. I’ve already shared a lot of the imagery but there’s still a few more gems to come. @corinneevans by @meganhemsworth in a pre-corona @visitcalifornia trip Corinne wears our Yemaya top and bottoms in Sage. This place holds a special place in my heart too. The first thing I did when I graduated in 2009 was search on Google maps were all the big surf brand HQs where and it turned out they were all in Costa Mesa, somewhere I’d never heard of but decided that’s where I had to go. With a youthful determination I flew out on an open ended ticket with a... few belongings, my portfolio, and the first night arranged with a Couchsurfer. The next day I was borrowing his beach cruiser and cycling door to door around all the big brands with my portfolio and best English accent looking for design work. It was an exciting time and I felt like I had endless opportunities ahead of me. I got some work with @hurley, rented a room from Craigslist, found a board, surfed @huntington_beach everyday, found lifetime friends, went to @burningman, became vegan, and went on so many incredible adventures, redwood wandering, canyon hikes, desert raves. I’ve spent almost a year in total in California, and it’s been formative in my life, career and who I am today. I do hope I get to go back to the palm lined streets of the land of dreams one day soon but for now I think of those days with fondness and endless gratitude #swimwear #sustainablefashion See more

A short update! It’s hard to believe that it’s been a month since we arrived here at the avocado farm and that it’s already time to move on again! Today we are heading westward to the west Algarve coast. I’m looking forward to because it is really very similar to the Cornish coast over there, and I feel at home in some strange way Everything is closed in Portugal and I doubt much will begin to change until towards March, but at least I’ll have the A...tlantic to keep me company until ‘lockdown’ eases. Who doesn’t feel that they are standing isolated in the middle of an ocean, clinging dearly onto a version of life that once was but is now slowing being submerged into the depths of the unknown, where our eyes, as they do when the light has just been switched off, begin to adjust and focus on the blinding beauty of what has been there all along, but that we have never learnt how to see.
