Did you know that a child can drown in less than 1 MIN? Drowning is the #1 cause of accidental death for children between the ages of 1-4 ...years old, multiple layers of protection are the solution: High locks and alarms on all doors and windows with pool access. A mesh pool safety fence, isolating the pool from the home and all access points. Alarms both in the pool and worn on the child. Water survival training as soon as the child is crawling. THIS IS MY WHY...... As most of you already know Dave and I lost our youngest son Zane (2 1/2 yrs old) to a tragic drowning accident August 7, 2017. We started a nonprofit Zane A. Witmer Memorial Foundation and under that we have Because of Zane which raises awareness to water safety and drowning prevention and we have Blankets4Zane which collects and distributes blankets to children’s hospitals. ... A few weeks after we lost Zane, the police advocate called to check on us and we got to talking and she mentioned ISR and told me a little about it and put me in contact with the ISR instructor in Cape Coral (who is just amazing). Up until that time I had never heard of ISR. We decided we need to bring this to our area or find something equally amazing to support. So we went and met with some people who claimed to be offering the same type of program. Visit after visit nothing was even close to ISR. We searched for someone who we could get certified to teach it and couldn’t find anyone to make that 8 week commitment. Finally Dave said to me You just need to do it. I applied and was accepted in May 2019 and have been waiting for a Master Instructor who could come to Lancaster. And while I was waiting a mom who also knew the importance of these lessons applied and was accepted. Being able to teach this gives me the ability to offer these life saving skills at an affordable cost. Safety before all else. We started training February 3 and I became certified in March 2020!! I am now doing lessons and always looking for pools to teach at! Zane you will always be my why
