Not swim related---but please remember this!! Everyone knows how much I love dogs! (In fact, many of you have asked puppy related questions when you adopted throughout quarantine!). I cannot stress this enough---KEEP THEM INSIDE AND SAFE! 2 years ago, my pup was on a leash and got away from me. Thank GOODNESS he hid under the car I was standing next to, and didn't dart. If you must leave them home alone; I recommend playing music in every room of the house; keeping them away from windows/doors and using lavender EO if you don't have something to give them from the vet. 4th of July, NYE and other "loud" holidays, I often end up in a closet with my Mowgli. Another note...a stressed/fearful dog can become aggressive. If you think your dog may do this, keep them away from your littles to avoid a bad situation.

To all of my students that opted for classroom learning, and got to head back today: Happy Back to School Day! 7 months is a long time to not see your teachers or friends, and I hope today brings you so much joy! To the parents who made this tough decision, and either dropped your babies off this morning or still have them at home: You've Got This! Teachers: thank you for all you do, and being so flexible and adaptable this year with virtual learning, hybrid learning and all that you're doing! #backtoschool2020 #wevegotthis

I've often recommended puddle jumpers to mom's when they ask for a good flotation device at the pool ((NOT THE LAKE OR BOAT..those activities need a USCG certified Type II or III flotation device). I understand that flotation devices are needed at various times near the water...but these are some important things to remember always. I have warned about the "puddle jumpers put children in the vertical position and teach muscle memory to be in the wrong position" and have told ...families to practice without it on, and practice OFTEN. The biggest thing is to make sure your child KNOWS the difference between having a floatie on, and not. This involves practicing in the water; and doing a "check list" with your child before they are able to enter the water (Sunscreen? Floatie? Parent says yes and is with me?" Please take a minute to read this tragic story. Remember ALL flotation devices provide a false sense of security to children, and care givers in pools. They should all be used with an abundance of caution and should never replace proper adult supervision. Summer is here, it's time to be uber vigilant with our littles and non swimmers around bodies of water.

Check your emails for re-opening plans! When we resume, it will be for private and semi-private lessons ONLY. We are also creating a gap between most classes to allow for families to leave; and proper disinfecting of surfaces. This does mean that spots will be incredibly limited at this time. To aid in this transition, we're offering AT HOME lessons with Ms. Bailey! For information on this, please DM or email: [email protected]

The story is tragic, and so close to home. I've been a fan of Granger Smith for awhile, and I remember crying when I read this story last summer. Please, take every precaution possible when it comes to your littles and their safety around water.

Today is the rescheduled date for San Antonio #BigGive2020 There are MANY great non-profits that are deserving of anything you may be able to give (not just monetary: time, word of mouth and other arenas of support are just as important!). Alamo Area Search & Rescue is the team and non-profit I am proud to be a part of! I spend nearly every weekend training, and in between work/classes do my best to further my knowledge as ground support and K9 Handler to be an asset to the team, and local law enforcement. If you find yourself able, please consider donating today to a local non-profit! #SanAntonio #nonprofit #BigGiveSA https://www.thebiggivesa.org/

Take a look at this new book, about courage and acceptance through the story of Maddy and her 3 legged friend, Mia! Written by a Mom of Ms. Shiloh's family friend; and now available on Amazon.

Parent & Me classes look a little different these days; but luckily these 2 don't seem to be phased by the big plastic face shield and are enjoying their weekly time in the water! #startthemyoung #parentandme

Drowning is not an easy topic, but an important one. Especially to your confident, yet not quite safe, swimmers. Thank you Hubbard Family Swim School for writing this important post on getting the conversation started.

As we navigate re-opening, and our new normal, I've become acutely aware of the anxiety our littles ones are feeling about everything changing. This is something I've considered for awhile, but did not want to add "just another thing" on top of your school and work meetings. However! As I continue to work on when and what re-opening and us beginning lessons looks like, I'd love to meet with any of my students! We can talk about their nervousness with swimming; their recent ...art work; any fears they have with going outside again; show me their favorite animal, read a book.... Whatever they'd like! For successful lessons, a student has to trust their instructor and this takes time! If you feel your child may be more nervous than usual when resuming lessons and you'd like them to see a face for the name before starting, just let me know. We will get something scheduled!

Just a quick reminder to families! There will be no lessons 8/28 (TODAY) through 9/8. I will still be replying to emails and texts on 8/31; but will be closed for the week after that. Thank you all, and see you soon!

A beautiful view during a brief break between afternoon lessons! I am SO thankful to all the families who have entrusted us to teach their children the importance of water safety; and those that have continued to refer us to friends! With new regulations and in an effort to keep everyone safe, I'vee had to lower the number of students/classes I can provide each week. I know this is disappointing to those waiting for lessons. I promise I am doing my best to get back to you all and find times that work for your schedules or put you on a waitlist for later this summer. I so appreciate your continued support and patience as myself, and other small/local businesses navigate this new normal. I love you all!
