2020 Olympic Qualifier Cherelle Thompson invites athletes and their parents to a zoom discussion entitled "Birthing of a New Era". Given the current circumstanc...es, many athletes may succumb to the adversity caused by the pandemic. These challenges include but are not limited to: breached family resources; disruption of social life and academic schedules and; the removal of external measurements of success and career goals. Coupled with the apparent attrition rates in the sport, these challenges may lead to a future of athletes characterized by depression, emotional exhaustion, discouragement, fear, or indifference. As opposed to waiting to congratulate the survivors among the fittest, it is my intent, through the engagement of a 4-week webinar series, to facilitate the birthing of an era of motivated, intentional, resilient, and persevering athletes in Trinidad and Tobago. I extend an invitation to teenage swimmers and parents to the series entitled "Birthing of a New Era." The overarching objective of the workshop is to combat the attrition rates that may stem from or be compounded by the pandemic by equipping, and supporting the athletes to push past their present circumstances and mental barriers, unearth their potential, and become everything that they were created to be as they pursue the goals in the sport and in life. Also be reminded to mark your calendar for the recurring event and tune in each Saturday ready to take notes and engage the guest speakers each week. Sessions will begin promptly at 4pm.
