Pool Maintenance during the Winter Months. For the most part pool maintenance in the winter months remains the same as during the Summer: Ensure you continue to test the water chemistry weekly (preferably on the same day), make adjustments as required and clean the pool. This should not change whatever the season, so make this your weekly practice. There are a few things that may be a little different as the temperature starts to drop. You will likely notice that your eva...poration may decrease a bit. Also, typically there will be a lot less rain, so the water chemistry should stay more consistent from week to week. Whether it comes from your hose or the sky, keep in mind that extra water changes the volume of water, which affects your overall levels. Enjoy the benefits of a warm pool year round with our heating options for the colder winter months: PROPANE: Propane is the fastest way to heat up your pool or spa. However, this quick heating option is the least energy efficient, with the average propane heater being 84% efficient with some high efficiency models getting up to 92%. Units range from $3200-4000 plus the cost of propane tank. HEAT PUMP: Heat pumps are not a...s fast as propane to get your pool or spa up to the desired temperature however, they are great at maintaining a constant temperature for a longer period of time and, as such, they are extremely energy efficient ranging from 500- 600% efficient. Units range from $4800-6500. SOLAR: Solar heating is the slowest option to get your pool up to temperature, based directly on the amount of sunshine. While it is a free heat source, it can be inconsistent and not as reliable. The costs for this can range from $5000-10,000 including installation.
