I am approaching this swim season with caution given the current environment but at the same time recognize the importance of learning to swim and keeping everyone safe especially for those of you with pools in your backyard. I have come up with a plan that I believe will help keep everyone safe. I will be wearing a clear face shield that will allow for full view and an added layer of protection I will carry with me only a kick board and will disinfect it between lesson...s Goggles and back floats will be made available for purchase or students can use their own I can recommend selected toys to help your child enjoy the learning experience and to encourage learning new skills I will teach from a distance for students that have an appropriate skill level. Of course, the younger ones will need me to be in the water with them I ask that if your child is sick that you notify me in advance so we can reschedule for a later date My first goal is for the safety of everyone involved. I am open to any other suggestions that you have that make you and your child feel comfortable. I am looking forward to a safe and fun swim season See more

a few interesting quotes from the below article "Swimming and the Fear Factor": "very young children who are comfortable in water are likely to be easier to teach to swim when they are ready to learn formal strokes." "Parents are not always the best teachers, especially for children who are afraid of the water, although a parent should be present and visible to the child during formal swimming lessons."... "A child who is very frightened or nervous around water may do poorly in a large class; a small class or even better, individual attention, at least for the first few lessons is likely to be more effective."

" This happens all the time, the instructor told me. Most kids are willing to try things with me that they would never try with mom or dad. You’re her safety net. As long as you are in the pool, she has you to hold onto. "

What Are the Benefits of Swimming for Kids? BY MELISSA HOPKINS SEPT. 11, 2017 https://www.livestrong.com/ What Are the Benefits of Swimming for Kids?... Teaching your child to swim and encouraging him to swim regularly can have significant benefits for both his health and safety. Especially on a hot day, swimming is a way to keep cool while encouraging a healthy level of physical and social activity. Take your kids to indoor pools in the colder months to promote an active lifestyle all year long.Swimming provides a more effective workout than some other activities. Safety According to KidsHealth.org, drowning is the second leading cause of death for people between the ages of 5 and 24. By teaching your child to swim, he will not only become a stronger swimmer, but also gain valuable experience in the water. This experience greatly reduces the risk of an emergency if your child accidentally falls in an unguarded pool or gets pulled into deep water by a rip current at the beach. Physical Health According to 24 Hour Fitness, swimming is an excellent cardiovascular workout that promotes heart and lung health, improves strength and flexibility, increases stamina and even improves balance and posture. In addition, swimming is a way to prevent childhood obesity, which has been linked to juvenile diabetes, notes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Swimming also puts less strain on joints and connective tissues than other forms of exercise. Emotional Health Encouraging your child to swim can also improve his mental and emotional health. The natural buoyancy of the water is more relaxing than other types of exercise, notes 24 Hour Fitness. In addition, the CDC found that people tend to exercise for longer periods of time while swimming. Swimming can also improve overall mood, and help combat depression, notes the CDC.
