This is a water fountain in Sherman Oaks. The fountain has a self contained pump which is unusual. Usually there is still equipment similar to pool motor and filter. This set up just has a water pump, similar to what you'd find in a fish tank. It only moves the water and doesn't filter dirt... so to do this the right way i had to remove a few hundred pounds of stones.

http://www.cnn.com//massachusetts.pool.woman.b/index.html This is why its so important to put just the minimum of chlorine in the pool when your kids are swimming.... just a few hours of swimming can lower your chlorine residual enough to make it cloudy.... Rule of Thumb: if you can't see the main drain... do not swim in the pool.

This is a pool in the Northern Van Nuys Area. Another Foreclosed house. I'm not sure how long ago the last service was but as you can see its pretty bad. The orangeish color you see in first picture is pollen that is trapped on the bubbles that are on the surface of the pool. Normally pool water doesn't have the surface tension to retain bubbles, let alone bubbles that can support weight of pollen. The bubbles are actually the oxygen the Algae is producing through photosynthesis... that should give you an idea of how bad this pool really is.

Included are some pools that have had some type of issue that caused them to turn green. In most cases these problems are caused by the pool not being serviced for prolonged periods of time (i.e. Bank owned forclosed homes).

For those of you considering "Solar sun rings"... please do all the research you can prior to spending $300+ on something that may do little to help you. I've spent last couple hours doing research on them starting with their patent application to customer reviews on amazon and other such sites.... Overall, as expected, I am not impressed. Every solar cover I've encountered so far causes more issues than they solve. Whether its causing algae blooms due to higher temperatures, or actually causing debris to fall into the pool they just don't make sense... unless you're willing to spend $1500+ on a automated cover.... No, I didn't think so...
