Real action at the Marlins pool this morning.. We did some underwater work at the swim sesh today and Coach Walter managed to capture these four in action. Here, our focus is on Technique. ... Why? Technique is more important than speed. With the wrong technique, our speed is limited but with the right technique our speed has limitless potential and that’s what we want!! Focus on maintaining a slight bend of the elbow at all times and on using the entire forearm to move a body of water from in front of you all the way to the hips. Take a look at the second swimmer in this video, he has a nice glide with a preferred stroke for longer distances. Hope you enjoyed today’s tip!
We’d definitely love to see one of our coaches try this when we’re next at the pool !! Coaches..any volunteers?
Congratulations to our boy Curtis Harper on placing first in his heat for the 100m Freestyle! You guys sure are making Team TTO and T&T Aquatics proud! Well done
Hey Fishies! It’s been a while huh? Check out this podcast. ... We are sure it may have some interesting tidbits to think about as we continue social distancing from the pool life. Now crosses the English Channel and north channel which is crazy. Check it out. https://youtu.be/JGH4ttCZI10

A beaming Nicky Neckles told reporters he stopped swimming competitively ten years ago and he never imagined he would be back at the World Masters at age 40 win...ning GOLD. When asked what next, he said: "I am so satisfied, not much could top this. People were taking pictures of me! The Meet organizers asked for a selfie with me!" Three Golds and three World Records! 2019 FINA World Masters in Gwangju. (40-44 age category). The humble and sincere Neckles said he will be resting for two days and then is looking forward to returning to work with his "Sagicor family". Members of his swim club - Hightide Stingrays as well as the President (Tony Selby) and VP (Samantha Clarke) of the Barbados Aquatic Sports Association, family, swimmers and well wishers were on hand to welcome and congratulate him. Throwback to last Saturday night when a fabulous time was had by all our Aquatics members old and new alike as we came together for what can only be considered as the most epic Club event for the year. Much excitement led up to this event allowing us to have almost 100 of our team come together, getting to know each other loads better outside the lanes. Best part, all dressed up pretty nice too! You Aquatics peeps sure clean up very nicely!!
So long Cross Harbour 2019! When life gives you lemons...make a beach lime! Today’s marked the 3rd attempt of this years’ annual Maracas Open Water Swim and also it’s cancellation once and for all. ... Despite the best attempts of ASATT, Mother Nature had the final say and it was definitely No. What made today so much fun was the spirit of Team T&T Aquatics... most of the team stayed on to ‘lime’ and needless to say a grand time was had by all. Lots of sharing, jokes and storytelling. No swim today but the camaraderie was on point. Here are a few pics to show how things played out for us at the beach.
If you had to describe each 200m length event..

We were lucky enough to meet up with the friendly swim legend Gordon Borde at Maracas Bay last Sunday. For those of you who may not be aware, Gordon won the very first Open Water Swim held in Trinidad put on by the Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad & Tobago (ASATT) in 1962 - The year our country gained its' independence. He also went on to win this Cross Harbour event consecutively in 1963 and 1964. Gordon started swimming in scouts in Trinidad at the age of 15 and ha...s been swimming competitively since he was 19 years old. While he enjoys swimming at the pool, open water swimming has always been his first love. This 81 year old is a living local legend , he has swam 111 Cross Harbour competitions - a whopping 81 here in Trinidad and 30 in other countries - Barbados, Grenada, Fort Lauderdale, USA and even in Venezuela! He plans to do his 112th Cross Harbour in less than 2 weeks at Maracas Bay on 22 September 2019. Gordon has quite a rich history in swimming; along with the late Joey Kaufman, he represented Trinidad & Tobago in the 1st Worlds Masters Games in Toronto in 1985. He also played water polo and represented our country in this sport during 1963 - 1973 and was the Vice President of our local swimming association ASATT on 6 separate occasions. The spritely Gordon, swims approximately 7,000m a week and has been coming up to Maracas Bay every Sunday morning for the last 20 years to swim with the Trinity Masters Club which was founded by the late Joey Kaufman, the late Mervyn Marquez and Gordon himself in 1984. If you'd like to learn more about this amazing human, come find him at Maracas Bay. Are you inspired yet? There is still time to register for this year's Maracas Open Water Swim. Race registration ends 15th September, 2019 register here: https://raceroster.com//subway-maracas-open-water-classic-
Meanwhile, some members of the team try to figure out the interesting features of the South Korean Toilets Note: We did say we were joining them on their journey )

Sadly, today's Maracas Open Water Cross Harbour Swim 2019 was cancelled due to tropical storm warning - good call by race organizers and ASATT, we commend you for placing our safety first. While many of us do feel a bit deflated after many months of preparation for this epic open water adventure, we've decided to take a positive spin on this situation and bring Monty Pyton's words to life in his song "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life". We came across this truly great ...Podcast by Trinidad born Gerry Rodrigues of Tower 26. Triathlon Swimming. This video shares very useful race tactics which will allows us more time to prepare for the Maracas Open Water Cross Harbour Swim - when it is eventually rescheduled - with these useful strategies that will make our time in the open water much more efficient. Did we randomly come across this podcast today? We think not - definitely it was kismet! Enjoy Swim Friends!
A family that swims together, stays together! The first Saturday of the year found some of our T&T Aquatics members in high spirits as we ventured on our virgin Open Water experience for 2020 at the ever scenic Macqueripe Bay. Take a look at a few pics of our first impromptu open water adventure and breakfast afterwards. On to more great things in 2020 and remember, just keep swimming! Team T&T Aquatics

Hey T&T Aquatics Peeps, Just saying Hi . Long week huh?... It’s been a long week and lots going on. But above all things, let’s stay positive and keep our sense of humor up and running. Most importantly stay connected, now more than ever let’s use technology in our favor and keep the team spirit high. Especially for those of us who live alone. For those of us who are used to being on the go and are getting used to the transition of working from home (in other words MOST of us), we thought we’d share this fun vid ( you just might have seen it before) . That’s it for now Peeps and we’d like to leave you with this quote from one of our team... If you can’t keep swimming, just keep smiling
‘Tis the season of giving and a time to be jolly. On this note, we wish to give back and celebrate someone who gives of himself all year round..Coach Patrick Lee Loy Patrick is known for being highly supportive of the Special Olympian Swim Family and gives much of his time tirelessly coaching and supporting them ..particularly with open water swimming. ... He’s known for being patient and considerate while also allowing newbies to get a feel of their balance and ease in the water. Today was no different. He spent today’s Christmas swim with two of the special Olympians giving caring guidance without hovering (a great skill indeed). This care trickled over to another Master today who is getting a feel for being at peace with open water swimming and long distance swims. We salute you Coach Patrick! Thank you for giving of yourself so much during the year. We’d like to give back in this small way with heartfelt thanks for your caring guidance in the swim community! Special mention goes to William Carr another caring supporter of the Special Olympians. Happy Christmas All Simone Bethel
Some inspiration for next Sunday’s Maracas Open Water Swim 2019.. Cameron Bellamy is progressing nicely en route to St. Lucia.. it’s a charity swim to support and enable some of the poorest and most underdeveloped rural areas of South Africa, Zimbabwe and, more recently, the Caribbean. You can read more here: https://ubunye.web.app/

Independence Day celebrations! Last Saturday, not only did we celebrate the 57th anniversary of sweet T&T’s independence , we took the opportunity of the celebratory atmosphere to welcome home most of our team from Gwangju, South Korea and also the birthday of our very own Head Coach Paul!... Needless to say a fabulous time was had. Club members came out to show their love and support and many boisterous laughs were had as we shared in some light hearted moments to celebrate all that was accomplished in August. While photos don’t truly convey the experience, here are some pics to show how things went down. Enjoy and see you at the pool!

From Cross Harbour Tabanca aka Pool Harbour to Swim Barbados To say the least, the people of T&T Aquatics certainly know how to make a splash ! All that Cross Harbour training and no race led to many a sad heart on that Monday with plenty pent up energy!... But team T&T Aquatics came up with the perfect remedy for that! And so it was that we created our first Pool Harbour..a simulation of the Cross Harbour race distances swam at the Marlins Pool. This impromptu swim meet took place on Saturday 2nd November and of course, there was a lime afterwards! You know how we roll! Swim Barbados.. We then followed some of our more adventurous swim mates who craved a race-cation, long distances and the opportunity to swim alongside the infamous Cameron Bellamy, known for swimming around the island of Barbados as well as a host of other achievements. Congratulations to our very own William Carr on a fantastic 10K swim completed in 2:52:26:8 securing himself a first time podium placement in this event in addition to finishing ahead of the infamous Cameron Bellamy!!!!! Wow, look ting! Check out our album collab and see what we’ve been up to in the last 2 weeks! One thing’s for sure...never a dull moment with Team T&T Aquatics!

As the journey ends for our amazing team in Gwangju, we end on another high note: Team Captain Anton realizes his goal by placing in the top 10 of his age group in the 50m backstroke. Meanwhile, fellow teammate Adrian achieves a PB.. also in the 50m backstroke with a time of 38:66. ... Thank you Team for making us extremely proud and for allowing us to be a part of your journey after many months of intensive training. Much inspiration has been provided to do great things too! Now go, enjoy yourselves in South Korea - permission granted See results here: http://wmc2019.microplustiming.com/swimming/index_web.php
