Do not let water out of your pool. Water is heavy, if the groundwater rises and your pool doesn’t have enough water in it, your pool and decking material can crack or fracture. ... 3. Don’t turn off your pool pump until the last minute. You want your pool to circulate as much as possible prior to a big storm. 4. When you do turn off the pump, make sure you also turn off the breaker. You don’t want your pump turning back on unintentionally or risk a power surge blowing out your motor. 5.
