Happy Spring! We're excited to share with you that we have received the consultants' report studying the feasibility of building the new pool. This report has not been presented to Queens Council yet and we can not share the details at this time. However, we have prepared a short summary of the study's findings that will give you a general idea of what's coming. Burke and Oliver, pool consultants recommended that the Region consider a 4-lane, 25 m lane pool that maximizes sha...llow water to accommodate the widest range of aquatic ability. A separate, warmer pool, a waterfall, and long slide were also suggested. While recognizing the challenges in adding such a facility to the existing QPEC, they also reported from research in similar areas that an aquatic centre can be a long term asset to a small community. Pools are a particularly effective public investment as, provided they are properly designed and operated, they can accommodate a wider range of activities for of people of all ages and abilities than any other type of active recreation facility. A modern pool would help support the Relocate to Queens initiative. The report will be presented to Council. Funding is, of course, of utmost concern. All efforts are being made by the CAO and the society to seek three quarters of the funding outside the Region.

Happy 2018! It's been quite a while since we gave everyone an update, but we finally have some progress that we're able to share publicly. First, we're excited to announce that we've been granted $6000 by the Region of Queens and $12000 from the Government of Nova Scotia to conduct an independent feasibility study for the new pool facility. This report is the essential next step toward asking the Region to approve construction of a new pool. The study is already well underway... and we hope to have the results to present to RQM Council in March. Following the presentation of the report, we will be holding a public meeting to share it's findings and solicit community input. We'll update everyone when the meeting date is set and we hope to have as many members present as possible to demonstrate the community's enthusiasm. Please keep an eye on your email and our Facebook page for more information. Finally, the QCAS will be holding our Annual General Meeting at 6:00PM on March 29 in the community room at Queens Place. Not only will this be an opportunity to discuss the progress of our campaign, but there will also be positions available on the QCAS board for those of you who would like to become more actively involved. Thank you all for you support
