Sad day at the Carlsons! The pool came down for the winter. But, it's always okay to keep practicing :) See you all in May!

I get a ton of texts and emails asking about the weather a d if we will swim super far in advance. This is what the forecast looked like at 6:30am today! Most certainly, if I relied on the forecast, I would have cancelled most of the classes this morning. Please don't be upset if I ask you to come unless I call you and let you know we wont be having class. We just got out and had to cancel the 3pm class because of thunder, but otherwise we have been swimming all day. I use t...he forecast as a way for me to monitor what's coming, but I only rely on my eyes and ears to decide if we will cancel. Occassionally, after a heavy rainfall, I will need to close the pool for a while and add some extra chemicals to make sure we stay within safe levels. If I do close the pool, I may do so 1-2 hours at a time, so I can give people as much warning as possible. All that to say, I know how difficult it is to get your little people here and have to leave right away, or part way through class. I'm grateful we dont have to do that often, and I'm thankful for those who understand that weather is apart of outdoor swimming sometimes!

I love teaching, and even more, love teaching with my son. It's so fun to have awesome families, and K&C come a very long way to see us. They spend more time in the car than at their lesson. They've improved so much in the last 2 summers. We have so much fun (even when Godzilla swims with us ), and I'm so sad summer swim is already over for so many kiddos! I'm glad to have some AA/BB day students and toddlers the next few weeks while it's still hot out! It helps extend my favorite time of the year just a bit longer! Joyce, thanks for bringing your boys all the way to see us. And for spoiling us <3

Working on getting ready for everyone! We had the back yard re-leveled, and now seeded, so hopefully we have grass when we start! The pool is ready to be filled Thursday when the temps warm up. It's almost SUMMER!!!

Using a combination of a solar blanket and a heat barrel, we get the pool about 10 degrees warmer than if it were left to be warmed by the sun. Can't wait to welcome all the littles and adults this week <3

My favorite swim students! Notice my 4 yr old is wearing a puddle jumper. He is a GREAT swimmer, but he doesn't have the stamina to hang with the older kids, and that's okay. Out of all life jackets we have used, I love the puddle jumpers because it gets the kids in the right position for learning to swim (vs. the jackets that flip them to their backs.)... If you are taking your littles swimming, have them practice their skills first, and then put them in the jumper for a little bit!

A popular boating weekend, Memorial Day weekend is typically when I get asked the most questions about life jackets. Here are the different type of Coast Guard approved life jackets. Today, I'm going to give you some wisdom I picked up from the United States Coast Guard website, so check back often!

It's time to close up the pool for the summer! Over 1,100 hours in the pool, plus 213 students this summer! Please keep sending me pictures and videos of my sweet students practicing their skills during the fall and winter. I LOVE THEM! You all are like family to me!... Thought I'd share an update about summer swim lessons, which isnt much of an update because not much has changed. Here's what I'm thinking: Best case scenario: We will be starting on Saturday May 23rd for opening day. Students will be able to choose 1 day a week to 4 days a week for lessons.... Worst case scenario: We wont be able to do lessons this summer. Middle ground- we'll be able to open at some other time during the summer. Unfortunately I feel like it is going to be more like our worst case scenario and here's why: If the stay at home order is lifted, but we are still required to social distance and wear masks in public, we can do neither in the pool. (I could teach kids with full pool masks, but then they wont be able to go under water and we all know they need that to learn to not be afraid of the water). I'm a glass is full kind of gal, and I really miss my students. I hope we can get back to swimming soon, but we need to do it responsibly as well. Hang in there, and if your child would like to receive a little something in the mail from me, please message me your address and I'd be happy to do it! Great news! We will be opening the first week in June for lessons! I'll be adjusting the schedules for a bit more time between lessons and ask that you wait until the group before you exits the area before coming to the pool. I'll have more details as we get closer. But here's a couple big changes. *Semi-private swim lessons will only be able to be with members of the same family this year.... *We will check temperatures before lessons to be sure everyone is currently healthy before they get in the pool. We will do this only as long as necessary, (and hopefully not at all!) REGISTRATION: Returning Familes will receive an email and/or text about registering on or before Tuesday, May 5th. This picture is from 3 years ago, when we were at morning swim team practice watching Coach Henry swim. Next year, my 3 oldest will all be swimming together. Swimming isnt a "passion" for Ava or Dean, but I firmly believe that practice makes us better, and in the case of water, it makes us safer. So, all my kids are required to swim on the summer swim league for at least 1 summer to sharpen up their skills. Swim lessons are not always enough, they need to practice.... The St. Charles County Swim League is a great way to get them on a swim team without the commitment of a year round program. Most teams practice in their neighborhood pools, and meets are on Monday evenings. Due to COVID-19, this year looks a little different, but keep it in mind for next summer, and join us at the Torpedoes (alligator creek) if you want to see us often <3

Goggles: should they wear them during lessons or no? Short answer: I prefer them not to, because they become dependent on them, and often will not enjoy swimming as much on their own in the future if they dont have them with them. But also, ill fitting goggles that kids keep readjusting take time away from our precious lessons as they take them on and off and ask for help.... Longer answer: If the student is wiping their eyes a lot and the water really is affecting the way they swim, we should let the kids wear goggles. The goal would be to get them to swim without them at some point, so they are used to having water in their face. If you want to grab a set, speedo is the best brand. We can adjust them to fit their head and then never have to mess with them again. Instead of running out to grab them, I have some available here for $10 each. Just ask me and I'll recommend the best model!

Hi Friends! I was planning on getting registration out for returning families a couple weeks ago, but since the onset of COVID-19, and then the uncertainty of when we will be able to get back to some sense of normalcy, I have decided to wait until Mid-April to reevaluate when our start date will be. (For sure after June, skipping at least 2 weeks in May) Henry and I are looking forward to getting in the pool with our students <3... Please take the time to practice in the bathtub before summer swimming. I miss you all like crazy! Make me some pictures and send them over and I'll share them with everyone!
