Laissez les bon temps rouler! Happy Mardi Gras y’all! If you read the blog post, you already knowwww. This infectious tune Big Chief by Professor Longhair is a staple amongst New Orleanians. There’s no getting around Mardi Gras day without the rollicking melody inspiring a hop in your step at best or a seasoned second line dance. Love this spin @norah_yarah_rosa took with Big Chief- which in title refers to Mardi Gras Indian groups mentioned in the link in bio. Originall...y composed by Earl King in the 1960’s, Professor Longhair, or Fess, made it a hit in 1964 recording the blues melody with a 15 piece horn ensemble (New Orleanians love their horns ). The Mardi Gras Indian culture of masking has roots influenced by the relationship forged between Native Americans and enslaved Africans in the pre-civil war era escaping to freedom. #crescent bleu #intothebleu #swimfashion #sustainablelifestyle #shopsustainable #ethicalfashionbrand #blackownedbrand #celebrateyourself #norahyarahrosa #keepswimming #celebratesafely #yardigras #housefloats #mardigras2021 #blackhistoryisamericanhistory #knowyourhistory
