In effort to build awareness during Bath Safety Month, Melissa McGarvey, Director of Aquatics and water safety expert at British Swim School, encourages parents to take the following steps to ensure bathtime is safe and enjoyable! Always close the door when filling the tub. Remove cleaning products, and employ the use of child locks on all cupboard doors (both high and low) within the bathroom. Never leave buckets or large toys in the bathroom area that a child can use ...as a step. Avoid the existence of sharp edges by covering with plastic corners or overlays. Non-slip mats inside the tub are key to avoiding slips and falls. See more

Parents ask: how long will it take my child to learn to swim? While children progress at their own pace, developing water safety and swimming skills requires repetition, consistency and time. Winter swim lessons build the skills necessary for children to stay safe during the warm weather months spent at the pool!

What is Survival Week? As we teach students water survival techniques, one important lesson is learning to navigate the water while fully clothed. Why? In a word: safety! After all, anyone who accidentally falls into a pool may not be dressed for it. Understanding the weight of their clothes underwater and how their body moves in them brings a whole new level of appreciation and skill.

We asked, they answered: Why do you love swimming? I love to swim because I get to hang out with my favorite instructor, Miss Jaritsa, and get to play with the rubber ducks! Daniel, Seahorse The feeling is mutual, Daniel! Our instructors love spending time with their swimmers, too! There’s nothing more rewarding than helping a child build confidence and independence in the water.
